Phuket is Thailand'Largest island and Southeast Asia's most popular holiday destination The main attraction for most visitors is the stunning beaches and crystal clear waters of the andaman sea. Just off the coast of Phuket are many beautiful islands surrounded by shallow water teeming with marine life and perfect for snorkelling. With several mooring areas on the island Phuket attracts members of the yachting and boating fraternity and also plays host to a huge annual regatta. Patong is Phuket's most famous and most developed beach. For some it is the heart and soul of a holiday in Phuket, for others a tourist trap that is best avoided. The three-kilometer long stretch of sand is lined with shops, bars and good seafood restaurants but also offers wind and kite surfing, sailing, swimming and sunbathing, Patong also has a reputation as the centre of Phuket's vibrant nightlife. Karon is Phuket's second longest beach and is the location for many of the bigger and more upmarket resorts such as the Hilton Acrcadia Resort & Spa. However. they are set back from the beach, leaving the wide expanse of sand free of development. To the south in the direction of Kata while at the busier nortern end there are restaurnats and bars.

Those in search of Phuket's quieter side should head to Nai Yang Beach in the north of the island. Nai Yang Beach is the ideal place for a relaxing getaway. The lovely curving bay has a wide stretch of sand and is trimmed byu trees and small beachfront restaurants serving gtreat Thai food, the opening of Adamas resort & Spa, Phuket and Indigo Pearl means that there are now luxurious hotels at this idylic udeveloped spot.
